features best suits your situation? Is it a family home, kids doing homework, partner having a catch up while you prepare the dinner, focus on the layout. Can you use your existing kitchen footprint? Using the existing footprint of your kitchen saves a whole heap of money as you can simply reconnect your old plumbing and electrics.
Fixtures and Fittings
Choosing appliances, lighting, window dressings, flooring, splash-backs and cabinet handles is a major exercise. So take your time, visit showrooms and hardware stores to collate all your information and choose everything that is not only functional, but aesthetically pleasing and suiting your kitchen style as well. Then visit your Kitchen Manufacturer. Your new kitchen will take anything between 4-8 weeks to be finished, depending on the workload of the business, so be patient.

When choosing a Tradesperson or Kitchen Manufacturer for your project, it’s a great idea to ask your friends and family if they can recommend someone, as a personal experience far outweighs choosing an unknown from the phonebook.
ALWAYS have a Contract
Without a contract, a Tradesperson is just a worker. It is hard to keep track of all the conversations that go into planning a renovation, so a contract is a must. Having a contract avoids conflicts and misunderstandings.
Set aside your storage spot
Choose a suitable area to store your kitchen items and boxes for packing so that when your kitchen is ready for it’s big demolish and replacement, you are ready to go.
Most of us don’t leave home when we are renovating, so it will be necessary to set up a temporary cooking area so you can still make your coffee and easy meals. The garage is a great area, especially if you have children.
Clarify Timelines
Have meetings with all your tradespeople and kitchen manufacturer to learn where in the project each is required and the sequence of their jobs. It is easier if you use a spreadsheet to record and schedule each of these.
Prepare for the Dust!
Yes you will have dust all through the house, it’s unavoidable. Make plans to be out of the house during the demolition and if the floor is sanded. Cover your furniture with sheets and blankets and keep all doors down the hall shut.
Book your Skip
More likely than not you will be responsible for the disposal of your old kitchen. Hiring a skip ahead of time keeps your property clean, tidy and safe from accidents.
Little Things Will Happen
When your kitchen is complete, or nearly complete, you will often find things that have been missed or not quite what you wanted. Complete a tour of your kitchen and make a list before your tradesman visits.
